We’ve finally heard news that the Notion Ink Adam starts shipping tomorrow! It has finally cleared its way through the FCC and CE batches, and will be available for delivery in a matter of days.

What is the Notion Ink, you may ask? The Notion Ink Adam tablet is a very capable tablet, complete with awesome specs and top notch hardware.

In short, it is a very serious contender in the coming tablet war of 2011.

The device, like the majority of tablets hitting the market this year, features a dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and will have an Android operating system at its core – presumably Android Honeycomb. And then there’s that Qi display…

For instance, the Notion Ink Adam features 10.1-inch pixel Qi display, which can be read outside under bright sunlight. Then there’s its dual core Tegra 2 processor, 3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi connectivity, 3G, and HDMI port.

Pros: 10.1-inch pixel Qi display, dual core Tegra 2 processor, HDMI port and Android 3.0 – although this hasn’t been confirmed as yet.

Cons: 3-megapixel camera, no front-facing camera (but it does swivel) Android 3.0 hasn’t been confirmed – although it is likely to be, Android 2.2 is so last year – and not optimized for use on tablets.

Verdict: We already included this on our list of Best Android Tablets of 2011 – and we expect it to sell extremely well.

It’s got the processing power, the hardware and the looks as well – at least from what we’ve seen so far.

Why is it special?

The Notion Ink contains a Pixel Qi display (great on battery life) and the frugal Tegra 2 chipset mean that despite having HD video capabilities, should excel in battery life too. NVIDIA are saying tablets with regular displays (consuming around 2W) using Tegra 2 will last for around 16 hours of Full HD video with a standard 3-cell battery. Because their display uses just 0.2W in its electrophoretic reflective mode, with that 3-cell battery you’ll potentially see up to 160 hours of use. Remember, that’s not just 160 hours of static E Ink style text, but also potential for video playback and digital content reading in color. Tegra 2 also has 12-megapixel camera support.

We’re very excited to get our hands on one right away. By Mobile World Congress the company behind the Notion Ink Adam is expecting to have optimized Android to shave boot-up time down to around three seconds. By then we will fully know about pricing too. We are told that we will be very excited about the price too.
