Nokia is teasing the launch of a flagship smartphone on August 21. Could it possibly be the long-awaited Nokia 9?

TL;DR
  • Nokia will unveil a new smartphone on August 21, according to the official Nokia Mobile Twitter account.
  • Although we don’t know for certain which phone Nokia will launch, it’s probably the Nokia 9 (2018).
  • The rumored Nokia 9 (2018) will be a flagship device that will compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S9.

Today on Twitter, the official Nokia Mobile account tweeted a teaser image for some kind of smartphone launch. Although we can’t say for certain what’s coming because Nokia isn’t dishing any details, it appears to be for the Nokia 9 (2018).

The teaser image shows the silhouette of a large device, with the grammatically-incorrect headline of “Get ready to unveil the most awaited phone.”

As I said, the tweet doesn’t give us much to work with. However, we heard earlier this year that HMD Global – which owns the Nokia mobile brand – has a flagship smartphone named the Nokia 9 (2018) in the works for release in September. Obviously, August 21 is before September, but it still stands to reason that the Nokia 9 (2018) is what’s coming.

If the Nokia 9 (2018) is what’s coming, it will likely be the big kahuna of the Nokia brand, featuring flagship specs, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, and features that pit it against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S9.

There are also rumors that the smartphone will have a notched display and an in-display fingerprint sensor. But that’s just a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt.

Whatever smartphone is coming, Nokia seems to think it’s a pretty big deal. Stay tuned for August 21!
