Spooky season has arrived, and with it comes a new batch of new Halloween streaming shows and movies to watch. While horror films and series are released at all times of the year, it seems like the Halloween time period is becoming a more popular place to launch this kind of new content. This year we have, among other things, a sequel to a beloved family-friendly Halloween classic, along with a revival of a popular horror film franchise and a new take on a classic Anne Rice novel. Even the Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting into the season with an all-new horror special.
New Halloween streaming shows and movies
Hocus Pocus 2 (Disney Plus, Available now)
Watching the original Hocus Pocus movie from Disney has now become a Halloween tradition for many families. After many years of waiting, those fans can finally watch the sequel on Disney Plus. The three evil witches known as the Sanderson Sisters, played once again by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, have been resurrected into present-day Salem by a trio of ill-informed teenagers that performed a seance. These kids now have to defeat this group of witches and put them back in their place before the end of Halloween night.
My Best Friend’s Exorcism (Amazon Prime Video, Available now)
Amazon Prime Video has a new comedic horror film to watch for the Halloween season this year. Set in 1988, it features the story of two teenage best friends, Abby (Elsie Fisher) and Gretchen (Amiah Miller). When they go to a cabin in the woods on a quick weekend trip, Gretchen suddenly gets possessed by a demon hiding in those woods. Can Abby get this demon out of Gretchen and save their friendship?
Interview with the Vampire (AMC Plus, Available now)
Anne Rice’s classic horror novel, previously adapted into a movie, is now a new TV series on AMC Plus. As with the book and movie, the show uses the bookend of a present-day interview with vampire Louis de Pointe to tell his story. We will see how his life in early 20th century New Orleans is changed forever when he is turned into a vampire by the aristocratic Lestat.
Mr. Harrigan’s Phone (Netflix, Available now)
It would not be a Halloween movie-watching season without a new Stephen King adaptation. Netflix delivers this film, based on King’s short story of the same name. Donald Sutherland plays Mr. Harrigan, who makes friends with a young kid. That child, Craig, gives Mr. Harrigan a mobile phone not long before Harrigan passes away. When Craig starts to call Mr. Harrigan’s old number to vent about some other kids that bully him, he gets a response from someone. Is Mr. Harrigan talking to Craig from beyond the grave, and what will he do to “help” his young friend deal with these bullies?
The Midnight Club (Netflix, Available now)
It’s a recent tradition to get a new mini-series from writer-director Mike Flanigan (The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass) as one of the new Halloween streaming shows. This year, we get The Midnight Club, which is the name of a group of terminally ill young people who are now living in a creepy hospice. Every night at midnight, they get together to tell scary stories to each other. However, things get really scary when a member of the group dies.
Werewolf By Night (Disney Plus, Available now)
The Marvel Cinematic Universe finally gets deep into the horror genre with this first one-shot special on Disney Plus. Filmed in black and white, the story is about a group of monster hunters who are gathered together to pay respect to one of their own, Ulysses Bloodstone, who has recently died. However, he now has a game for these hunters to play; fight and defeat a new monster on the grounds of his estate, and the winner gets to keep a ruby red bloodstone that the monster has on the back of his head. Marvel Comics fans will get to see a number of characters make their MCU debuts in this special.
Hellraiser (Hulu, Available now)
Horror writer Clive Barker wrote and directed the original Hellraiser movie, which has since spawned many sequels. Now Hulu is doing a hard reboot of the franchise, with Barker’s blessing, in this movie adaptation. The plot is basically the same as the original, as a man discovers a puzzle box that, when solved and opened, brings forth a group of horrifying creatures known as Cenobites, including its leader Pinhead, played this time by Jamie Clayton.
Significant Other (Paramount Plus, Available now)
Maika Monroe has become a modern-day scream queen with her appearances in acclaimed horror films like It Follows and Watcher. Now she stars once again in a horror movie that’s exclusive to Paramount Plus. She plays a woman who goes hiking and camping with her boyfriend in a remote section of a forest. They stumble onto . . . something, and now it seems Monroe’s character is starting to change, and that may not be good for her boyfriend or anyone else that encounters her.
The Watcher (Netflix, Available now)
Netflix has a new mini-series as one of its new Halloween streaming shows. It’s based in part on the true story of a family that moved into a house in New Jersey and soon began getting written messages from an unknown stalker who called himself The Watcher. The mini-series will star Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Mia Farrow. and Jennifer Coolidge.
Halloween Ends (Peacock, Available now)
The Halloween sequel trilogy that began with 2018’s Halloween and continued with 2021’s Halloween Kills finally ends with this movie that can be watched both in theaters and on Peacock on October 14. This will be the final battle between the supernatural serial killer Michael Myers and his long-time nemesis Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). Which one will prevail?
Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities (Netflix, Available now)
The Oscar-winning horror movie director will turn into his version of Rod Serling for this new Twilight Zone-like anthology series. Del Toro wrote the story for two of the eight episodes of this show and is the on-screen host of all eight episodes. Each episode has its own director, and the cast for this new Halloween streaming show includes Tim Blake Nelson, Crispin Glover, Rupert Grint, Andrew Lincoln, Peter Weller, and more. The show will debut two episodes daily from Tuesday, October 25 to Friday, October 28. It may be one of the best new Halloween streaming shows.

The story is all about a 13-year-old girl who is tempted by two demons (voiced by the acclaimed comedy duo of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele).
