The Motorola Photon 4G was Moto’s flagship device on Sprint less than a year ago, and, although it was quite a nice-looking and powerful phone at the time, it soon became outdated. However, as the device managed to draw some new customers to Sprint, it now seems that a sequel is in the works. At least that’s what the guys at PocketNow are claiming, saying that they picked up on a rumor from a “trusted source” about an upcoming Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE.
I know, that’s one of the most horrible smartphone names I ever heard, and it’s practically impossible to remember it without writing it down, but, for now, you shouldn’t worry too much about it. I mean, we don’t even know if the phone will ever see the light of day, so this rumored name is even less likely to prove accurate.
On the other hand, if the name is real and Motorola is planning to release the “Photon Q 4G LTE” anytime soon, we can assume a couple of things. First of all, it’s pretty obvious that the smartphone will come with 4G LTE connectivity, with WiMax now being history for Sprint.
Secondly, and more interestingly, that “Q” added to the name might not be some random branding, and could indicate that the handheld will feature a full QWERTY keyboard. We’ve been saying for a while that we would like to see a snappy smartphone running Ice Cream Sandwich and featuring a QWERTY keyboard. Perhaps this new Photon will be the one to fit the description? Keep in mind, though, that this is purely speculation and is not based on anything other than what we, here at Android Authority, would like to see happening, so don’t get overly excited about this, okay?
Getting back to PocketNow’s rumor, the report didn’t mention a release date, a price tag, or any other tech specs besides the 4G LTE connectivity. So for the time being, we should wait for something official and not get ahead of ourselves with hopes and dreams.
However, I think it’s safe to assume that, if a Photon 4G sequel is in the works, it will come with Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, a snappy dual or quad-core processor, and a 720p HD display. It’s also very possible that the phone will be released sometime in late summer or early fall, like the original Photon 4G did, but, once again, this is purely speculation.
Are you excited about a sequel to the Motorola Photon, especially if it were to feature the spec sheet rumored right now? Would you like to see an ICS-flavored phone with a full QWERTY keyboard? Hit us back with a comment and let us know!
