Motorola's affordable Moto G9 Power packs a 60-hour battery (Updated)

Original article: November 5 2020 (5AM ET): The Moto G Power offers battery life to spare, but there’s already a sequel that promises even greater longevity. Motorola has unveiled the Moto G9 Power, a low-cost variant of the G9 with a 6,000mAh battery. That’s the largest ever in one of the company’s phones, and considerably bigger than the 5,000mAh pack in the G Power.
Motorola claims the huge battery is enough to offer 60 hours between charges, or about 2.5 days. That’s likely to vary depending on your circumstances (the company says this reflects “mixed use” in ideal network conditions), but there’s a real chance it might last a weekend with some energy to spare.
The Moto G9 Power is otherwise very much a modern Motorola budget phone. It revolves around a large 6.8-inch “HD+” screen, a relatively modest Snapdragon 662 chip, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of expandable storage. There’s a 64MP primary rear camera (with pixel binning to improve low-light shots), a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor, with a 16MP front camera for selfies.
You won’t find 5G or wireless charging (‘just’ 20W fast charging over a wired connection), and Motorola says the G9 Power is still running Android 10. It is “water repellent” if you’re caught out in the rain.
The real allure may be the price for that battery capacity. The Moto G9 Power will launch first in Europe for €200 (about $234), making it an easy pick if you want an affordable phone that still lasts for long stretches. Whether or not it’s an option depends on where you live, mind you. The G9 Power is coming to “selected countries” in Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East in the weeks ahead, and there’s no mention of a North American debut as of this writing.
