The Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus were released in March and April 2017 respectively running Android 7.0 Nougat. Given the typical 24-month Android smartphone life-cycle, these should be due for the Android 9.0 Pie update too. However, considering the time taken for this update to roll out, I wouldn’t hold my breath for another major update.

In related news, it appears Motorola is also now accepting beta testers for the Moto G4 Plus Oreo update in Brazil. We may be in for even more Motorola updates in the build-up to Christmas.

As with most of these updates, Oreo for the Moto G5 and G5 Plus will roll out in stages; you may have to wait a week or so to see it on your handset.
