Monument Valley brings beautiful impossible architecture to Android
Following a short stint as an iOS exclusive, the critically acclaimed Monument Valley is now available on Android.
Developed by London-based studio Ustwo, Monument Valley garnered an average of 4.5 stars across 4,000 reviews on iOS, and the praise of many critics. Described, among other things, as “impossibly gorgeous” and “sublime,” Monument Valley combines beautiful artwork with a simple gameplay centered around elements of Escher-inspired “impossible architecture.”
Each level takes your hero, a silent princess named Ida, through a beautifully designed 3D “monument”, filled with stairs, passages, and elevators that you have to manipulate in order to clear a path to the finish. Tapping a passage can turn it into a flight of stairs, with an elegant animation leveraging optical illusions. Later levels add enemies that Ida has to avoid, but for the most part, the game provides a relaxing, slow-paced gameplay that many will find refreshing. The airy soundtrack and sound effects contributes to the serene atmosphere of the game.
Monument Valley is available in the Play Store for $3.99, the same price as on iOS, with no in-app purchases or ads.
