iOS platformer “Mikey Shorts” arrives to Android, nostalgia abounds

Mikey Shorts is a popular retro-style platformer that has been around on iOS for quite a while now, and today it finally makes its way over to Android as well!
The game is exactly what you’d expect from an old-school platformer: you run, jump and slide to avoid obstacles while saving people. The game consists of 84 different levels and has 2 game modes, there’s also 6 unique environments and you can even race against your own ghost in order to compete for the best possible score.
During my brief time playing the title, I found it rather enjoyable, though obviously more than a little derivative. Some of the games that came to mind while playing include Super Mario Brothers and the lesser-known classic Alex Kidd series, though it has a lot in common with just about any major platformer from the 8-bit or 16-bit gaming era. Thankfully, there’s more than just nostalgia here. The game’s music and graphics are entertaining and it also offers modern components like a 3-star rating system during the completion of levels, as well as Google Play games integration.
Bottom-line, if you are looking for a fun, simple platformer for Android to kill some time with — this could be exactly what you’re looking for. The game itself is a premium title and will set you back $.99. Mikey Shorts is available now, directly through Google Play.
For those that have tried it already what do you think so far? Worth the buck or do you feel there are better Android platformers out there?
