At MWC 2014 McAfee announced that it is making a change to its McAfee Mobile Security app for Android, namely there is now a free version. The new version is part of Intel’s plan to “make security a more integrated part of the consumer experience”.

The new free app will be offered in 30 languages and provides basic virus scanning, theft protection features, app privacy and more. There’s also a new Wi-Fi security feature that McAfee says allows you to connect to any Wi-Fi network “with confidence, knowing that McAfee will alert [you] to any risky or non-password protected networks that [you] may be connecting to.”

Of course not everything is free. There are certain premium features that will require a paid subscription. In addition to extra security features, your $2.99 monthly subscription will also include 2GB of secure cloud photo/video storage and phone support.

For more details on the free version of McAfee Mobile Security, or to download it, you’ll want to head over to Google Play.
