Bringing all platforms and devices together can be a challenging feat, but Google is making an attempt with Material Design. The colorful, streamlined design works well with all screen sizes and interfaces, but adapting it may prove to be challenging for developers.

Bringing all platforms and devices together can be a challenging feat, but Google is making an attempt with Material Design.
Google is trying to help by releasing the Google IO 2014 app source code, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. This app serves as a reference for the new design, and now Google is showing us how it all came to be. The Search Giant’s video (posted right below) was created to explain every detail within the app’s design elements.

Everything is covered, from surfaces and shadows to colors, margins and grids. These happen to be the main factors in Material Design, and they are not many. In the video, Google IO 2014 app designer Roman Nurik goes into detail about the process of every single Material Design element in the app. You can also see how every element was chosen and why.

It’s a very interesting clip, so give it a watch if you are interested in seeing how Material Design works. It will be especially interesting to developers looking to adopt this new design language.
