Here’s the reason why HTC and Sony are having a hard time selling smartphones for $700: you can easily get a great device, albeit an older one, for less than a quarter of that.
We’re talking about the Nexus 5, to this day, the most popular device in the Nexus family. The LG-manufactured device is currently just $150 on the daily deals site Woot.
For comparison, some newer devices with similar specs cost $200 or more. The 3rd gen. Moto G, for instance, is currently $220 on Amazon.
This isn’t the lowest price we’ve seen for the Nexus 5 – just last week the device hit $140 on Daily Steals. And that was a refurbished unit, while this is brand new.
It’s been two and half years since Google unveiled the Nexus 5 alongside Android 4.4 KitKat, so here’s a refresher: you get a 5-inch Full HD display, a Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM, an 8MP camera, and a 2300 mAh battery. Currently updated to Marshmallow, the Nexus 5 still performs admirably, but the camera and battery life haven’t fared so well in the test of time. For more details, take a look at our Nexus 5 review.
Woot is selling the Nexus 5 for $149 for the next 20 hours or while supplies last. Happy shopping!
