There’s more to CES than just a place to showcase the latest and greatest in mobile technology. We know that LG is planning to introduce its 5.5-inch 1080p phone, which is believed to be the sequel to the Optimus G, as well as some new smart TVs, but it’s also bringing its smart home appliances to the CES 2013 floor.

We’re talking about washing machines and refrigerators that can communicate with you through the app on your LG smartphone. Not impressive enough? Let’s throw in some robotic vacuum cleaners and ovens as well.

The idea is to let you control these appliances from afar. If you have guests coming over, but got stuck in a long meeting at the office, simply “call” your digital assistant to start cleaning up the house. You can also check the status of your washed socks on your smartphone. These are the things that’ll truly make you feel like you’re living in the 21st century.

We’ll learn more of how these smart home appliances, which we assume will be powered by Android OS, work next week. Check out the short trailer video that LG has posted for a taste of what’s to come.
