The T-Mobile G2X, which is nothing other than a carrier branded version of the LG Optimus 2X, is actually one of our favorite smartphones on the market. It has great performance, and an excellent display. Plus, with news like this, it just keeps getting better. While the G2X/Optimus 2X has some decent performance out of the box, this recent overclocking development takes it to a whole new level.

Still, we’re never satisfied with existing levels of performance, and always crave more! If you’re on the same page, then this post will come as good news to you. Most recently, XDA revealed a new custom kernel that really kicks the G2X’s performance up a notch. It takes the T-Mobile G2x from 2500 in Quadrant – which is a very respectable score – to an insane 3264, which is jaw dropping! It has been overclocked to 1.5GHz — which is a 50% increase in clock speed.

If you have the G2x, or are thinking about getting one, then hop on over to the XDA Developers site for more info. Awesome stuff!

Puts it pretty close to the world’s most powerful smartphone – don’t you think?
