TL;DR
  • Lenovo has launched its latest tablet in the form of the Yoga Pad Pro.
  • It packs a healthy mix of hardware with a 13-inch display that can double as an external monitor.
  • It goes on sale in China this week for just over $500.

Lenovo’s Yoga tablet series is well known for packing quirky yet practical designs. Its latest offering, the newly launched Lenovo Yoga Pad Pro, is no exception.

First spied in 2020 as the Yoga X, the tablet made its official debut in China this week. It comes half-covered in Alcantara — a soft-touch fabric that Microsoft also uses on its Surface series. It also packs the customary bulbous spine that houses the two ports on either end and main JBL-tuned speakers.

A 13-inch 2,160 x 1,350 LCD resides up front. The panel also supports HDR10, Dolby Vision, features 100% sRGB coverage, and packs up to 400 nits of brightness. This would make it an interesting laptop sidekick, a notion Lenovo seemingly supports. The tablet packs a micro HDMI port, turning it into a portable external monitor on demand for your laptop or Nintendo Switch.

There’s an adjustable steel kickstand, too, so it’s easy to prop up the tablet as you would a traditional display. The Yoga Pad Pro can also be hung from a hook or tilted upward on a table for drawing.

Beyond its external display smarts, it’s a powerful tablet in its own right. The Lenovo Yoga Pad Pro packs a Snapdragon 870 SoC, 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. A 10,200mAh battery powers the lot, but this does mean the tablet tips the scales at a hefty 830 grams.

There’s also a single front-facing 8MP camera on the Yoga Pad Pro for meetings and impromptu selfies and a ToF sensor alongside it for authentication.

Other niceties include an optional stylus, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 support, and a line of stereo speakers up top too. It also comes with Android 11 baked-in with Lenovo’s ZUI 12.5 skin on top.

Lenovo Yoga Pad Pro: Price and availability

The Lenovo Yoga Pad Pro is now available to pre-order in China for 3,299 yuan (~$517), with general availability kicking off at the end of May. As for global availability, there’s no word if or when the Yoga Pad Pro will make its way to other markets.

Lenovo’s brought an interesting prospect to market here. Not only is this thing a capable entertainment tablet, but also a viable productivity tool. But what do you think of Lenovo’s latest product? Is the Yoga Pad Pro hot? Let us know by voting in the poll above!
