Instagram updated to version 6, introduces new photo editing functions

Instagram has received a new update that brings with it new photo editing functionality that allows you to adjust filter intensity and more.
June 3, 2014

Instagram 6.0 has been officially announced, bringing dramatically improved photo editing functionality. While Instagram has always made it easy to apply filters to the photos you take, the new update allows you to adjust the filter strength, brightness and so much more.

Here’s the full list of new tools, giving us a better look at what to expect from the update:

  • Filter Strength
  • Adjust (crop and straighten at the same time)
  • Brightness
  • Contrast
  • Warmth
  • Saturation
  • Highlights
  • Shadows
  • Vignette
  • Sharpen

Bottom-line, Instagram’s goal is to make it so folks don’t have to turn to other apps or services to edit their pics before uploading to Instagram. While these improvements certainly won’t match more expensive apps and software, the new tools will likely be more than enough to satisfy casual Instagram fans. Even better, these tools are all free to use.

The new update has yet to arrive to Google Play just yet, but should reportedly be rolling out sometime later today. We’ll update this post when it officially rolls out. Update: It’s live now.
