Deal: Get Independence Day for a buck in honor of Earth Day

It’s worth noting that this copy of Independence Day is HD quality, meaning it would usually cost you $12.99. That makes this a 92% discount. Who can’t jump on that?
April 22, 2016

In case you haven’t checked your calendar, today is Earth Day. In celebration, Google is putting Independence Day on sale for just $0.99. For the very literal among you thinking, “Hey, why aren’t they having this sale on actual Independence Day?”: you need to check your Yankee privilege because that’s only an American holiday, and this is a movie about saving the whole damn planet.

Well… and also probably because Independence Day: Resurgence, the long-awaited sequel to this two-decades old sci-fi flick, is being released on June 24, well ahead of the American holiday. So putting the first movie on sale on that date wouldn’t contribute to the hype building up to the ID:R. In this case, clever marketing is your gain, but it’s also the Earth’s gain as well: $0.50 of every one of these sales will go to the Trees for the Earth foundation.

This star-studded adventure includes the likes of Will Smith, Jeff uh Goldblum, and Bill Pullman who delivers the most epic presidential speech in movie history. Also we get a taste of Randy Quaid before he went completely bonkers. Even though this movie came out in 1996, it remains surprisingly fresh-feeling, and even the CGI hardly feels dated.
