TL;DR
  • The first set of high-quality renders of the HUAWEI P50 Pro leaked today, via frequent source @OnLeaks.
  • The renders show a very unique egg-shaped camera bump housing two huge discs.
  • The P50 Pro also appears to have an IR blaster.

Although HUAWEI is still facing tough times thanks to the HUAWEI ban, that doesn’t mean the company is out of the game. We still expect the manufacturer to launch the P50 series at some point in 2021. Today, we got our first good look at one of the premium models in that lineup.

Below, you can see leaked CAD-based renders of the HUAWEI P50 Pro. These images come courtesy of Steve Hemmerstoffer, aka @OnLeaks. He’s a very reliable source for renders such as these, so it is likely that they give an accurate representation of how this phone could look.

The most interesting thing about the renders is the rear camera bump. It is…umm…quite unique. Check out the images below to see for yourself.

One of the more prominent rumors we’ve heard is that the P50 Pro could feature a 1-inch camera sensor. If true, that would be the largest sensor ever on an Android phone. It’s possible that this weird, egg-shaped camera bump could have something to do with that sensor.

Hemmerstoffer posits that there could be multiple lenses housed within each black disc that occupies the egg-shaped bump. That’s totally possible. Unfortunately, renders such as these can’t give us much info about the innards of the device, just the outside.

However, we can see that the HUAWEI P50 Pro appears to have an IR blaster at the top, just like the P40 series. This is interesting, as most flagship phones abandoned the IR blaster feature years ago, yet HUAWEI refuses to let it go. Unfortunately, HUAWEI does not appear to be bringing back the 3.5mm port, another feature that’s faded away with time.

Of course, it is assured that this phone will launch without access to Google apps, including the Google Play Store. There are rumors that it could launch with Harmony OS, HUAWEI’s Android alternative (that appears to mostly just be Android 10).
