European HTC One XL LTE announced in Germany, €699 contract-free
The HTC One X has been selling briskly around the world, with the LTE version of the device just recently coming to the US with AT&T, with a variation of the device, the EVO 4G LTE going on sale soon with Sprint. Of course, the phone would sell better if it weren’t for import bans. Anyway, it looks like the LTE version of the HTC flagship device will soon be ready for sale in Europe as well.
In a joint press conference, HTC and Vodafone Germany announced the launch of the HTC One XL LTE. While there are two color options for the device, white and black, in an odd twist, Vodafone Germany will be featuring only the black One XL in its LTE lineup. HTC announced that Deutsche Telekom and O2 Germany are the other network carriers that will offer the HTC One XL LTE.
The specifications of the device include:
- Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4
- 1.5 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor
- 4.7″ S-LCD2 HD display
- Bluetooth 4.0
- 8MP rear camera with HTC ImageChip and ImageSense, 1.3MP front camera
- 32GB internal storage, no microSD support, free 25GB DropBox storage for 2 years
- 1,800 mAH battery
- Beats Audio
As you can see, the European LTE version is the same with the AT&T One X, and features the dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. This is again due to the notorious incompatibility issues between the quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 and LTE radios. The quad-core processor is featured in the international, non-LTE release of the device.
While there is definitely something more attractive about a quad-core device, recent benchmark tests have indicated that the dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor performs admirably, and, in some cases, even outdoes the Nvidia Tegra 3.
The HTC One XL will be available in Germany from early June. The release of the LTE version in the rest of the European countries where this type of networks are operational will follow shortly after. The handset will be priced at €699 (~$880) from Vodafone and €659 (~$830) from HTC.
What are your thoughts? Will you be picking up the LTE version of the One X or would you rather have the quad-core device? Is the unavailability of the white HTC One XL with Vodafone a deal-breaker for you?
