HTC One 'Gramohorn' accessory will set buyers back as much as $8000
Of course there are still times when you’ll want to enhance your phone’s sound. For most folks that means turning to radio docks or third-party external speakers and amplifiers. If you are looking for a more unique, outrageous and expensive method, HTC has you covered.
Due to limited quantities and the special production process, the Gramohorn II is an oddity that doesn't come cheap. Bronze and stainless steel variants will apparently cost as much as $8,000!
Teaming up with designer Justin Wolter, HTC UK’s “Here’s to Creativity” campaign brings us the Gramohorn II.
This dual-shaped gramaphone amplifier features two cones that amplify each BoomSound speaker, without using any electronic components to get the job done.
The Gramohorn II’s design certainly looks like something from the bygone era of record players, but the technology used to produce it is actually very modern. The amplifier is made from plaster composite, and is then produced via 3D printing. After the printing, the rest of the design is finished by hand.
Due to limited quantities and the special production process, the Gramohorn II is an oddity that doesn’t come cheap. The ‘base’ version will set users back roughly $1,600. Bronze and stainless steel variants will apparently cost as much as $8,000! Certainly a cool idea, even if its price range means that none of us will likely ever get our hands on this unique speaker accessory.
So why would HTC work with Wolter to create an accessory that few folks will ever buy? It’s all about marketing. This is a unique concept, and one that’s going to show up in all sorts of online publications (Android Authority obviously included). This will further bring attention to HTC and to the HTC One.
If such a product was mass-produced and sold at a more affordable price point – say sub-$150 – would you consider the Gramohorn II? Or would you rather stick to a more conventional electronic speaker/amplifier system?
