HTC’s September 19 media event is inching closer, but right now we still have no idea what and how many new gadgets will be on display in New York City. The rumors keep coming though, and it seems that, even though the Taiwanese are in a serious financial pickle, they’ll have quite the show for us.

That 5-inch phablet we’ve been hearing so much about is almost confirmed and can’t be be too far, the Flyer 2 7-incher has a good shot of also being unveiled, while at least one of the recently unveiled China-bound budget-friendly phones should get a wider launch as well.

Think that’s enough for just one media event? Well, think again, because a mysterious Desire 4G LTE phone has been revealed via a leaked screenshot of Verizon’s internal device management system. The doc puts the Desire right ahead of the more familiar Thunderbolt 4G (aka ADR6400L) and the Droid Incredible 4G.

Oddly enough, the Desire 4G LTE has an August 28 date next to its name in the internal doc, which might tell us that it already missed its planned launch. However, that’s clearly not a section for release dates, based on the ones associated with the Thunderbolt and Droid Incredible 4G LTE, so we still have no idea when is this Desire 4G LTE supposed to see the light of day.

The guys at Engadget, who’ve picked up the leak, initially speculated that the Desire 4G LTE might be a lower-end device than the Droid Incredible 4G LTE launched a couple of months ago. They even went as far as to guess this mysterious handheld might be a tweaked version of the recently unveiled Desire X mid-ranger.

That might seem like just a guess, but after doing some digging we found a rather intriguing listing on Cellcom’s website of a phone called… the HTC Desire 4G LTE. The regional carrier is a partner of Verizon, so we have no reason to think the listing isn’t legit or that it’s of a different phone than the one supposed to be heading to Big Red.

If Cellcom’s info proves accurate, the Desire 4G LTE is set to come with a qHD super LCD 4-inch touchscreen, a 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor, 1 GB of RAM, and an 8 MP rear-facing camera.

That’s not exactly what I would call low-end, although it doesn’t fit the high-end bill either. The rest of the specs listed by Cellcom are themselves decent, but not extraordinary and include a VGA front-facing webcam, Beats Audio, Android 4.0 ICS with HTC Sense, 8 GB of on-board storage, microSD support, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, LTE speeds (duh!), and a 1,700 mAh battery.

As you can imagine, the phone is listed as “coming soon” with no ETA mentioned, but in a rather surprising turn of events the pricing is already set. The Desire 4G LTE will therefore cost $419.95 off-contract or $149.95 with a two-year carrier agreement. At least at Cellcom, because Verizon might price the handheld differently. If, of course, it’s the same device after all…

There is some mystery surrounding this Desire 4G LTE, but we’re ready to bet an official Verizon announcement is due any day now. Who’s excited about this latest HTC mid-ranger?
