HTC Butterfly 2 variants allegedly spotted in OTA test
A screenshot suggests that HTCmay be already working on HTCButterfly 2 versions, with at least three different models having been reportedly spotted, including a Verizon-bound one.
Three HTCdevices bearing the DLXPLUS codename were apparently found in an OTA test file of the HTCButterfly X920d version (the handset model launched in Asian markets excluding Japan and China), as follows:
- GSM/WCDMA support
- Model number PO68220
- GSM/WCDMA/LTE support
- Model number: PO68200
- CDMA2000/GSM/WCDMA support
- Model number: PO68100
Those of you unfamiliar with previous DLX and DLXPLUS rumors should know that the DLX is a codename for the HTCButterfly (sold as J Butterfly in Japan and Droid DNA in the U.S.) and the DLXPLUS was at one time rumored to be the Verizon version of the HTCOne.
Does that mean that the second-generation HTCButterfly models will be launched soon? Other than this screenshot, there’s no evidence to suggest that HTCwill announce new smartphones anytime soon, especially considering it’s currently in the process of launching the HTCOne flagship in a variety of markets.
Furthermore, while the screenshot is certainly interesting, we’ll remind you that the devices spotted in it are still unconfirmed, and we’ll just have to take them with a grain of salt for the time being.
The image doesn’t reveal many details about this supposed Butterfly 2 versions, but Phone Arena reports that they could be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processors.
The same publication says that the DLXPLUS_WL could be a future Verizon Droid DNA 2, while the DLXPLUS_UL would be the global version of the phone.
We’ll note that Verizon is the only carrier of the Big Four not to sell the HTCOne at this time, but the operator has a special media event scheduled for May 22 during which we could find out more details about future smartphones heading its way.
That said, we’ll just have to wait for HTCand carrier partners to announce these devices, of course, assuming that these codenames are indeed real.
