How to get Spotify on your Apple Watch

The ability to play music from an Apple Watch makes the device a useful gym companion. If Spotify is your go-to platform for audio content, add the app to your go-to wearable. Follow the steps below if you already have the Spotify app on your iPhone.

  • Open the Watch app on your paired iPhone and tap the My Watch tab.
  • Scroll down to Installed on Apple Watch, and check if Spotify is downloaded.
    • If not, scroll down to Available Apps and tap Install next to Spotify.
  • On your Apple Watch, open your app gallery, then find and tap the Spotify app.

If you don’t already have Spotify on your iPhone, you can find and download the app from the App store.

How to use Spotify on your Apple Watch

With a free Spotify account, you can control music playing on your iPhone from your Apple Watch. Follow the directions below to control your listening experience and manage your Spotify library from your wrist.

  • Tap the Play or Pause icon in the middle of the screen to start or stop your music.
    • Spin your Digital Crown to change the volume from this screen.
    • Tap the heart outline to add the current song to your Liked Songs. If the heart is already green, tapping it will remove the song from Liked Songs.
    • Tap the Spotify connect icon to choose where you want to play your audio. If you choose to play music from the watch, you will be prompted to pair AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones to your device.
  • Swipe left to review your downloads or browse your Spotify library and recently played music.
    • Tap Your Library to find your music organized by Playlists, Podcasts, Albums, and Artists.
  • Swipe right to see the current album or playlist queued.
    • You can also set your queue to shuffle or repeat from this screen.

How to play Spotify on your Apple Watch without a phone

If you are a Spotify Premium member with an Apple Watch Series 3 or later, you can also stream music, podcasts, and audiobook directly from your watch or download them to listen to content without your iPhone nearby. With an LTE model, you can stream content at any time you have service. If not, you will need to download content to listen to it when your phone (or a Wi-Fi connection) is out of range.

  • Open the Spotify app on your Apple Watch.
  • Locate a playlist or album you would like to download and tap the three dots.
  • Tap Download to Apple Watch.
