How to hide or unhide slides in PowerPoint

Sometimes, depending on your audience or topic, you may not want to show every slide in your presentation. If that’s the case, here is how to hide or unhide slides in PowerPoint.

QUICK ANSWER

To hide a PowerPoint slide, select the slide you wish to hide in the left-hand side navigation pane. Then, right-click or Ctrl+click on the slide and choose Hide Slide.

To unhide a PowerPoint slide, select the slide you wish to hide in the left-hand side navigation pane. Then, right-click or Ctrl+click on the slide and choose Unhide Slide.

If you have a slide you want to hide, here are the steps to take:

  1. In the left-hand side navigation pane, select the slide you wish to hide.
  2. Right-click or Ctrl+click on the slide and choose Hide Slide.
  3. A slash through the slide number will appear to indicate it is hidden.

To unhide a slide, do the following:

  1. In the left-hand side navigation pane, select the slide you wish to unhide.
  2. Right-click or Ctrl+click on the slide and select Unhide Slide.
  3. The slash through the slide number will disappear to indicate it is no longer hidden.

How to show hidden slides during a presentation

If you have hidden a slide but want to show it during a presentation anyway, you can still do so. The steps vary depending on your operating system. This will display the slide only once. If you go back after forwarding through the rest of your slideshow, the hidden slide will not appear. To permanently unhide a slide, follow the steps above in the previous section.

On Windows

PowerPoint on Windows lets you show a hidden slide by doing the following:

  1. In Slide Show view, right-click any slide and select See All Sides.
  2. The screen will switch to a thumbnail list of all the slides in your presentation.
  3. Select the hidden slide. It will appear in full-screen, and the slide show will resume.

If you are in the presenter view, the audience will not see the steps to unhide a slide. They will see the slide you unhide in step three above.

On a Mac

PowerPoint on macOS lets you show a hidden slide by doing the following:

  • In full-screen mode, head to the slide before the hidden slide and press H.
  • In presenter view, move your mouse to the bottom of the screen to open the slide navigation pane and then click on the hidden slide.
