Update: May 20, 2020: Google announced that the current two month free trial for new Stadia Pro users will end June 2. Starting June 3, the service will offer just one month of free access to the streaming game service for new users.

Original story: April 8, 2020: Nearly five months after it launched, there’s finally going to be a Google Stadia free trial. Google announced today that it will offer two free months of Stadia Pro access to the 14 current supported countries for the game streaming service. This Stadia free trial offer will start rolling out today and will be fully available within the next 48 hours, so you may have to wait a few hours before the free trial becomes available in your region.

The two free months of Stadia Pro will include free access to nine games, including:

  • Destiny 2
  • GRID
  • Gylt
  • PUBG
  • Serious Sam Collection
  • Spitlings
  • Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks)
  • Steamworld Heist
  • SteamWorld Dig 2
  • SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamesh
  • The Turing Test
  • Zombie Army 4: Dead War

Users will also be able to purchase additional games to play on their Stadia account, including the recently launched Doom Eternal. Once the free trial is over, users can continue to access Stadia Pro for $9.99 a month. You can choose to cancel you Stadio Pro subscription at any time before the free trial ends and pay nothing (excluding the extra games that they chose to purchase).

How to get the Google Stadia free trial offer

  1. Once the Stadia Pro free trial offer is live, go to Stadia.com and sign up with your Gmail account.
  2. After that, install the Stadia app for Android or iOS. The app is used to complete the signup process, along with claiming your free games and purchasing additional games.
  3. After that, you can start streaming Stadia games as long as you have a compatible device. PC and Chrome OS tablet owners can head to Stadia.com and start playing with a mouse and keyboard or their favorite game controller. Users with Pixel smartphones or supported Android phones can also play with a controller via Wi-Fi.

Google cuts down its Stadia video resolution default to 1080p

Google has also announced that the default video resolution for Stadia streaming games has been cut down temporarily from 4K to 1080p. This is likely due to the concern of heavier internet traffic caused by so many people staying at home due to the current coronavirus outbreak.  Google made a similar decision for its YouTube services in several markets. Users can switch back to 4K resolution in their Stadia app settings.
