Google Play website hints Galaxy S5 GP Edition is on its way

A curious 'error' on the Google Play website's devices page seems to hint that the Galaxy S5 GP Edition may soon be on its way.
April 29, 2014

Earlier today we learned that Google may eventually be axing the GPe and Nexus programs in favor of its upcoming Android Silver strategy. Of course, that’s still a long ways away and we can expect at least one more Nexus handset between now and then, and probably at least a few Google Play Edition devices as well.

Speaking of the latter of these, it looks like a new GPe handset might be incoming, at least if the screenshot you see above means anything at all. At first glance you might not notice anything unusual, but take a closer look at the Galaxy S4. Yep, that’s a Galaxy S5 with a badly photo-shopped image of stock Android on-top of it. If you’re wondering what’s so bad about the image, you can see software keys if you look carefully.

Now, this image could simply be some kind of crazy error, but we don’t know why else Google would throw a picture of the GS5 up there unless they were planning to unveil a Galaxy S5 GPe device. Considering the GS5 image has been placed over the GS4 GPe listing, we have to wonder if this means Google will no longer be carrying the GS4 GPe or if they plan to carry both models like with the HTC One.

We’ll be sure to keep an eye out and will post an update as soon as we learn more about the Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition, if it is in fact on its way. Anyone out there interested in picking up the GS5 GP Edition or not?
