Google Pixel 6 series could pack much quicker charging speeds

Google recently revealed the Pixel 6 duo to get ahead of leaks. While we now know the phones’ fundamental features, some details are still slipping through the cracks. A new report now allegedly sheds light on the phones’ charging speeds.

According to 91Mobiles citing tipster Yogesh, the Pixel 6 series could bring support for 33W charging. That’s an ~83% speed increase over the current 18W standard used by the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a. Notably, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are rumored to pack 4,614mAh and 5,000mAh power packs. Buffing the charging speed would be critical for Google to keep wall times to a minimum. Per our experience, it takes the Pixel 5a’s 18W charger more than two hours to fill up its 4,680mAh battery. This is just fine for a mid-ranger with a long battery life, but arguably too slow for a premium flagship.

The report also suggests 33W chargers were seen testing at Google’s HQ, but this doesn’t indicate that the charger will be included in the phones’ boxes. Google reportedly confirmed that the Pixel 5a would be its last smartphone to come bundled with a charger. But if its newer devices support 33W speeds, it’s likely users would need to budget for a phone and an upgraded brick. Google claims that the Pixel 6 Pro will be an “expensive” device, too.

Google foldable delayed?

But what if you’re holding out for the rumored Google foldable? Well, per the report, it’s delayed. Previous leaks suggested that the foldable would launch in Q4 2021 packing a 7.6-inch foldable screen with Samsung supplying the OLED panel and ultra-thin glass.

As we can’t yet corroborate these leaks, we’d suggest taking them with a pinch of salt. Yogesh has a pretty reliable track record, but Google has yet to confirm any charging or battery details for either phone nor has it announced details surrounding its rumored foldable.

Google has confirmed the Pixel 6 series will debut in the Fall, so expect a September-October launch for its new flagship duo.
