Google posts 2-minute ad on Pixel 5a's headphone jack, but Pixel 6 won't have it

Seriously, the entire two minutes is all about the headphone jack. It's awkward.

TL;DR
  • A new Google Pixel 5a advertisement spends two minutes talking about its 3.5mm headphone port.
  • The ad is funny and makes light of the circular nature of the port.
  • However, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will not have the port. This is a very strange thing.

There’s a lot to love about the Pixel 5a, the follow-up to last year’s Pixel 4a (or the Pixel 4a 5G, take your pick). It has an IP rating, a decent 700-series chipset, a dual-lens rear camera, and 5G connectivity (naturally). Check out our full review for more.

Oh yeah, did we mention it has a headphone jack? The Google Pixel 5a has a headphone jack. Do you understand that it has a headphone jack? I hope so, because it does. A glorious headphone jack.

My repetitive writing there is similar to a new advertisement from Google, mirrored above. The two-minute ad is all about the Pixel 5a’s headphone jack. It’s very funny and certainly a unique approach to pushing a smartphone to consumers, but it becomes a bit awkward when you know that the flagship Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will officially not have the port.

If it’s such a cool and integral feature that Google is ready to make an entire ad about it, why won’t the sure-to-be-more-expensive phones have it?

Obviously, we’re screaming into the wind here. Most of the smartphone industry has decided that flagship phones don’t have headphone jacks, while budget-minded phones do. We don’t agree with it — and neither do you — but that’s the way it is. It would be nice, though, if companies didn’t rub it in our faces. Bad form, Google.
