Update: a “reliable source” told Geek.com that no hardware will be shown at the event. This could mean Google will focus solely on the Play Store for this one.
As you read this post, Google is sending out email invitations for a special event scheduled on October 24. While there’s no mention of Android or Nexus in the invitation, we can’t help wonder: will we see the much anticipated Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat?
Details are scarce for now, but it seems that the “night out” event will be centered on the Play Store. Google is preparing to unveil some new developments related to its media offerings, namely music, movies, and games. A performance from indie band Capital Cities is also on schedule.
The event is planned for next Thursday, October 24, 2013, starting at 7PM. Google’s Night Out will take place in New York, and is likely that it will be livestreamed on YouTube, as it happened with most of Google’s big events in the past years.
Now for the big question: is this the Nexus/KitKat event we’ve all been waiting for, or is Google just teasing? The hype levels are already off the chart, but Google may be eager to drum up the excitement for its new offerings just a bit more.
Most credible rumors that we’ve heard so far stated that Google will make Android 4.4, the new Nexus 5, and the Nexus 10 public towards the end of October, possibly on October 31.
It’s safe to say that the Nexus 5 is ready for primetime. The device leaked on Google’s own Play Store and its specifications are all but confirmed at this point, though a multitude of problems could hold its release back.
We are waiting for more details on this, so stay tuned.
