Google is making it easier to swap watch straps for Android Wear devices.

A new collection of watch straps dubbed MODE provides “snap-and-swap” functionality to existing Android Wear devices.

Google has just released a handful of promotional videos showing the new straps in action, and they’re already on sale through the Google Store, Amazon and Best Buy. From the videos we can see that it’s quite easy to switch out these straps. Simply pull down on the metal slider, slide the spring bar into place, and release. Pretty easy, right?

The new MODE bands bring compatible Android Wear devices on par with the Apple Watch – both platforms allow quick swapping, with the main difference being that the release mechanism is built into the Apple Watch, while MODE is device-agnostic. That means these MODE watch straps can also be used with your traditional timepiece as well. With that said, MODE may not work with watches that use non-standard lug sizes.

Google will also include a new set of spring bars that better fit with the MODE bands, as well as a spring bar tool. As of now the only manufacturer making these bands is Hadley Roma, but Google says other OEMs can adopt the unique locking mechanism as long as they pass a reliability test and follow the brand guidelines.

The MODE bands made by Hadley Roma are available in both leather and silicone variants for $59.99 and $49.99 respectively. There are a good amount of color and size variations ranging from 16 mm to 22 mm in size. If you’re interested, we’ve attached links below so you can check them out for yourself.

So what are your thoughts? Will you be picking one of these up for your Android Wear watch?
