If you have been putting off your purchase of Google’s little Chromecast streaming dongle, now is probably the perfect time to grab one. Google has just updated its device with new media controls and is now offering a selection of free goodies to redeem, worth $80, if you buy and setup your Chromecast before April 19th.
As for what’s in the bundle. Google is throwing in a free three-month trial to Google Play Music, movies from Asia via DramaFever, and Sesame Street GO, for the kids out there, or in you. Remember to check the trial expiry dates if you don’t plan on signing up to a longer, paid for service. There’s also 30 days of Qello HD concerts available for free and $6 worth of Play Movie rental credit to claim.
Google, and other retailers, have been offering various Chromecast bundles since launch. The speculation is that Google wants to encourage as much adoption as possible in order to strengthen its negotiation position with content providers. High user numbers are likely to be essential when it comes to securing third party content ahead of rival TV streaming products.
