Galaxy S5 Dx (Mini) spotted on Samsung’s UK site?

Samsung may be forgoing the Mini moniker in favor of the new “Galaxy S5 Dx” branding, possibly to make it sound more dynamic. Supporting this theory are the new color options in the screenshot, which include lime and orange, in addition to the S5’s black, blue, and white.

Take this report with a grain of salt, because, while it comes from the highly reliable @evleaks, its actual source is a poor quality screenshot the leaker received as a tip.

So, what are we looking at here? Judging from the URL in the screenshot (assuming it wasn’t tampered with), the device in question is the SM-G800, a designation that in the past was associated with the upcoming Galaxy S5 Mini.

However, Samsung may be forgoing the Mini moniker in favor of the new “Galaxy S5 Dx” branding, possibly to make it sound more dynamic. Supporting this theory are the new color options in the screenshot, which include lime and orange, in addition to the S5’s black, blue, and white.

While the design of the S5 Dx/Mini is largely similar to its bigger brother’s, the obvious change is the absence of the heart rate monitor on the back of the phone. That’s understandable considering the mid-range pedigree of Samsung’s Mini phones. The Korean company may be trying to push customers towards its Gear 2 and Gear Fit wearables, which both include heart rate monitors and are better suited for the task.

In terms of specifications, an earlier leak mentioned a 4.5-inch 720 AMOLED panel, a Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and an 8MP camera. These are all decent specs for a device of this caliber, provided the price will be good enough (read – competitive with the Moto G). No info yet on the release date of the Galaxy S5 Dx/Mini, but it shouldn’t be too far.
