Earlier today, Samsung announced the first official Galaxy S5 variant, the S5 Active. Of course the rumor mill claims there are at least a few other variants in the work, including an S5 Prime and an S5 Mini. Speaking of the latter of these, a new leak from SamMobile has surfaced giving us the first images of the device, alongside full specifications.

As you can see in the pics, the GS5 Mini retains the same overall design as its bigger brother, albeit in a smaller package. Even the GS5’s heart rate sensor and fingerprint scanner are making a return for this device.

As for the rest of the specs? The Galaxy S5 is powered by a currently unannounced quad-core 1.4GHz Exynos 3 SoC with a Mali-400 MP4 GPU, 1.5GB RAM, an 8MP rear cam, a 2.1MP front cam and 16GB storage with microSD for expansion. You can also expect Android 4.4.2 KitKat with the latest version of Samsung’s UI. According to SamMobile’s tipster, all the key GS5 software features are also here such as the Private Mote, Kids Mode, Ultra Power Saving Mode and the list goes on.

While the GS5 Mini continues Samsung’s tradition of producing minis that have little to do with their bigger brothers outside of aesthetics, the handset should still provide a fairly decent experience for those with modest needs. What do you think of the GS5 Mini, based on what we know — like it or not?
