Some of you might remember (or even actively use) Sliding Messaging, a SMS application introduced last year that in many ways was designed with Android power users in mind, thanks to the vast array of features crammed in. Now the same developer is back again with something a bit more streamlined and instead geared towards mainstream users: EvolveSMS.

Now it’s important to note that Sliding Messaging is not dead, though EvolveSMS will be their primary focus when it comes to SMS apps.

So what exactly does EvolveSMS do? Besides the obvious fact that it can send SMS messages, it also has support for a wide range of emojis, has fully customizable notifications, 2 different widgets for the lockscreen, group messaging support and so much more.

Not only is EvolveSMS have plenty of features that make it stand out from other SMS apps, it’s also visually appealing, too. The new app features Kitkat’s transparent status and nav bars and has a clean UI that seems fairly easy to use, despite packing so many features. Even better, the app provides all of this features for absolutely free. Of course there is also a premium “Feature Pack” that you can buy as an in-app purchase for $1.50 that adds several additional features including blacklisting, Dropbox backups, scheduled SMS messages and several other special options.

While many of the features in EvolveSMS are aimed at KitKat users, it’s important to note that the app will work with any device running Android 4.0 and higher. For more details about the app or to grab it for yourself, you’ll want to head on over to Google Play.
