How to duet a video on TikTok

It's more fun to sing or dance when you don't have to duet alone.
February 9, 2023

Duets are a kind of content-creator collaboration on TikTok where you can post your video side-by-side with another video. Perhaps you want to play guitar to compliment someone else’s singing or test out the validity of a supposed lifehack. Duets begin as two videos on a split-screen that play simultaneously but can quickly cascade into a series of split screens the more people duet with the same video. Here’s how to duet on TikTok.

To duet on TikTok, find the video you want to duet with, tap the arrow icon to Share, then select Duet. Record your video while watching the original on the right side, edit the video with filters, text, music, etc., then tap Post to publish the duet.

Others will not receive a notification when you duet with their video. However, they can see the video if you make it public.

The most common reason for a delay in your duet is the audio being out of sync. Try to re-record the duet to resolve the issue.

Unfortunately, you cannot use a pre-recorded video to duet with another user. You can only duet with saved videos if the creator allows the option.

Make sure you are using the latest version of the TikTok app. The duet feature may not be available on older versions of the app.

Suppose you are using the latest version and still don’t see the option to Duet. In that case, it may be because the original video’s creator has set their account to private, or the video may not be eligible for dueting due to copyright or content restrictions set by TikTok.
