Addictive puzzler Dots updated with multiplayer mode
Dots, the popular connect-the-dots puzzler for Android and iOS received today a multiplayer mode dubbed Challenges.
Dots v.2 finally adds a multiplayer component, and expands the social component by allowing you to challenge Facebook friends to a quick game. You can also pair up via email, but if you don’t want to bother your friends with invites, the Auto-matching feature will set you up with a random player.
So how does Challenges mode work? Very simple – you and your opponent take turns at completing 60 seconds (or 30 moves) puzzles, and the highest score wins. The games are played asynchronously – after you complete your game, you wait for the opponent to finish up to see who won.
It’s a very minimalist take on multiplayer, one that’s in line with the game’s design and gameplay. For Dots fans, this minimalism is what makes the game special and addictive. And addictive it is – Dots says it has 500,000 daily users who play 500 million games every month. Not bad for a connect-the-dots game.
One last thing – IAPs are available in Challenges mode too. For instance, you can buy yourself an edge over the adversary for $0.99, in the form of ten extra seconds. Money well spent? That’s not for us to judge.
