Deal: Get a 16GB Moto G (first gen) for just $85 on Amazon US
The original Moto G was the first in a wave of brand-name smartphones that married low price tags with solid specifications. More than two years later, the first generation Moto G is still a decent choice for budget-conscious buyers, and today’s Amazon deal makes it even more tempting.
As part of its Gold Deals of the Day, Amazon is discounting the US version of the Moto G (fist-gen) 16GB down to $85.99. The phone has been going for $120 or more for the past months, so you’re looking at a decent saving. Today’s deal beats the previous all-time low, which was $99, by a solid 15%.
The deal is valid for the US GSM version only. Only the black 16GB model is discounted, meaning that the 8GB version is actually more expensive today. The global versions still sell for around $115.
Don’t expect anything crazy, but for $85, you’re getting a tried and tested device that runs Lollipop (unfortunately Motorola didn’t deem it worthy of a Marshmallow update). Specs include a quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a modest 5MP camera, and a 4.5-inch HD display.
Note that, this being a GSM device, it’s not compatible with Verizon, Sprint, and any MVNO that use their network.
The Moto G’s price probably won’t go much lower in the future, so if you’re looking for a brand-name cheap phone for someone who only needs the basics, this deal may be a good time to get one. However, with relatively little extra, you could get a newer device – we have a great roundup of cheap Android devices, so make sure to check that out.
The deal is valid through midnight PST today! Happy shopping!
