It’s been said so many times already, yet people still have a need to use their mobile phones when they are driving. Because of this, there are several Android phones that offer a Car Mode app that can either be built-in or downloaded through the Android Market. Once in this mode, there are some additional steps that need to be taken unfortunately.

To get rid of this, Cobra Electronics has released a new product known as the Cobra JoyRide. As soon as you plug in your Android phone into the charger, it automatically reconfigures a companion app which opens your customized Car Mode. As a result, you get a car-specific interface with large buttons that allow you to easily operate functions on your device including hands-free calling, voice command, and even opening a GPS navigation app.

Additionally, the JoyRide app automatically triggers the modification of some phone settings such as enabling GPS, disabling Wi-Fi, and setting your phone to vibrate. Most especially, the app has a geo-tagging function that helps you remember where you parked your car, even when unplugged.

We’re excited for the launch of the charger at the CES 2012! But sadly, we’ll have to wait for the market launch in Q2 this year. The Cobra JoyRide is rumored to retail at $39.95.

The Cobra JoyRide application can also save the GPS position of the owner’s vehicle on the Android phone and help them navigate back to their parking spot.

Cobra JoyRide was recently recognized by the CEA with a prestigious International CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Award.
