Stable Chrome 77 is now rolling out for Android, Mac, Windows, Linux, and iOS. The update brings a number of security fixes and other improvements to the Chrome browser. The biggest changes have come to page sharing on mobile and desktop, a longer desktop welcome process, design tweaks and more. Let’s break down those updates for you.

Chrome 77 for Android is now rolling out and will be available widely in the next few weeks. Don’t be surprised if you haven’t received the update yet. Google notes that the release include stability and performance improvements. A total of 52 security fixes have been carried out on Chrome 77.

While the complete change-log is not yet available on the Google Play store, a few changes have been spotted by us and others (via 9to5Google) who have received the update.

  • Right at the offset, users will notice faster loading of web pages thanks to performance upgrades under the hood.
• There’s now a “Send to your devices” feature available from the sharing options. It lets you share a page to your other devices with your Google account logged in. Tapping the Send to your devices option in the sharing menu will bring up a list of your logged in devices. Here, you can choose the preferred device to send the page.
  • Chrome 77 for Android also changes the design of the downloads screen. The menu on the top left corner has now been replaced with buttons for viewing different types of downloads.
  • For security, Chrome 77 includes Site Isolation. This feature protects against cross-site data attacks.

Google has promised that more details on Chrome 77 for Android will follow soon.

The Chrome 77 update for desktop – Windows, Mac, and Linux – is now available too. You can head to settings in your Chrome browser and check for updates. If your Chrome is set on auto-update, the same will be installed automatically.

  • If you are logging into Chrome 77 for the first time, you will go through a slightly longer induction process. Google will first prompt you to add bookmarks under the address bar. Suggestions will include sites like YouTube, Gmail, Google News, and more. This will be followed by an option to make Chrome your default browser and another one to sign-in and sync your data.
  • A “Send to your Device” feature (mentioned above) is also rolling out more widely on desktop with Chrome 77.
  • There’s also a new animation when new websites are being loaded. The new loading animation now revolves around the favicon (the website icon you see in the address bar).
