How to change the language in PowerPoint

If you create presentations for multiple audiences, it can help to have PowerPoint set to a different language. Here is how to go about changing language in PowerPoint.

QUICK ANSWER

To change the spelling language in Windows, open PowerPoint and navigate to File > Options > Langauge. Then under Office authoring languages and proofing, select the language you want and click Set as Preferred. If the language you wish to use is not shown, click Add a language.

To change the spelling language in macOS, open PowerPoint, navigate to Tools > Language and select the language you want. Click OK.

If you want to change the language of PowerPoint’s spelling checker, the steps vary depending on your operating system.

In Windows

  1. Open PowerPoint and navigate to File > Options > Langauge.
  2. Under Office authoring languages and proofing, you will see a list of available languages. Note that you must have your desired language pack installed before the option to use it will appear here.
  3. Select your desired language and then click Set as Preferred.
  4. If the language you want is not shown, click Add a language and follow the on-screen instructions.

On a Mac

In macOS, you must change your entire operating system’s language for PowerPoint to change its UI language. Here is how to do that:

  1. Open Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Region.
  2. Select your desired language in the Preferred Languages list by dragging it to the top of the list.
  3. If you don’t see the language you want, click the Plus (+) sign and add it.
  4. Restart PowerPoint for the changes to take effect.
