Audiophiles are in for some good news, thanks to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) and its latest Bluetooth innovation.

The SIG has announced Auracast, a new audio technology and brand that offers audio sharing, public listening tech, improved accessibility, and more. Auracast is part of Bluethooth’s LE Audio and goes far beyond the basic point-to-point audio communication the SIG has supported until now.

According to the group, Auracast will allow a single audio transmitting device to broadcast to an unlimited number of nearby receiving devices. The new technology opens a world of possibilities, including allowing venues to broadcast audio directly to attendees’ devices, allowing users to share their audio with others, and providing a way to remotely unmute TVs in public venues using Auracast-enabled devices.

“The launch of Auracast broadcast audio will trigger another massive change in the wireless audio market,” said Mark Powell, CEO of the Bluetooth SIG. “The ability to broadcast and share audio using Bluetooth technology will reshape personal audio and enable public venues and spaces to deliver audio experiences that will improve visitor satisfaction and increase accessibility.”

Some of the biggest names in the industry, including Google, Xiaomi, and the Hearing Loss Association of America, have already expressed support for the new standard in a move that bodes well for its adoption and long-term success.
