The seven-inch Amazon Kindle Fire will be getting a big brother in 2012. Amazon is said to be developing a Kindle Fire model with a much larger, 8.9-inch display.

According to a DIGITIMES report, upstream supplier sources have mentioned that users can expect the new 8.9-inch version of the Amazon Kindle Fire to launch by the end of the second quarter in 2012.

Amazon is said to have selected  the 8.9-inch display for the current Kindle Fire’s big brother to take advantage of LG’s and Samsung’s promotion of 8.9-inch panels.  Amazon reportedly wants to stay clear of the competition in the 9.7- to 10.1-inch tablets market.

Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai Precision, will begin production of the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire in the middle of Q2 2012.  Foxconn will also begin producing the 7-inch Kindle Fire in Q1 2012, alongside Quanta Computer, which has been producing Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

With larger tablets currently flooding the market with display panels of 9.7-inches to 10.1-inches, Amazon will also develop its own.

Also, the Amazon Kindle Fire will get not just one big brother but two.  Aside from the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire, Amazon is also rumored to be developing a 10.1-inch Kindle Fire.

The Kindle Ice is also a hot topic, although there is little information about this device.  Rumors say that it will also have an 8.9-inch display and expected to arrive in early 2012.

It is possible that the production of the Kindle Ice and the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire will be simultaneous, as they have the same display panel size, or, it could be that this rumored follow up for the 7-inch Kindle Fire is the Kindle Ice.

What do you think? Would you prefer a Kindle Fire with a much larger display?
