What is a Chromebook?
Chromebooks are computers that run Google’s Chrome OS operating system. Chrome OS is a simple web-based operating system made for those who use their computers mostly for browsing and light tasks. It uses the Chrome browser as its backbone, adapting its abilities to a desktop-like user interface that makes it feel like a traditional desktop PC.
Chrome OS has advanced its offline capabilities in the years since its inception. Chromebooks became especially more capable when Google gave Chrome OS support for Android applications, giving users access to a huge library of applications, services, and offline features. Why go with HP?
Like many great tech companies, HP has its roots planted in the San Francisco Bay Area. However, it was founded in 1939 and is recognized as the Silicon Valley founder. Hewlett-Packard is a crucial part of computer history, so the company knows how to make a laptop. Its computer designs have been recognized for generations. Current iterations are modern, sleek, and offer great value. The best HP Chromebooks are no exception. We also have a list of all the best Chromebooks if you want something else, which you can check out here.
1. HP Elite c1030
HP Chromebooks are usually on the budget side of the spectrum, but you can find some premium offerings as well. The highest-end option is the Elite c1030. It comes with a 10th-generation Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. HP’s 13.5-inch touchscreen is a standard feature on this business-ready two-in-one, just like the 720p HD webcam. This laptop also comes with a backlit keyboard and nearly nonexistent bezels on all four sides. You’ll pay for those nice features, but the specs are among the best you’ll find on a Chromebook.
2. HP Chromebook X360
The x360 is another great two-in-one HP Chromebook to consider. This specific version comes equipped with an 11th-generation Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. It also comes with a 14-inch Full HD display. You can even tap into premium features like a fingerprint reader, Wi-Fi 6, and a backlit keyboard. In our opinion, the Chromebook x360 is one of HP’s best-looking offerings, and it’s aimed at the everyday consumer rather than the business professional.
3. HP Pro c645
The HP Pro c645 is an awesome mid-range option, and you can almost think of it as a light version of the c1030. It packs a sleek design, a backlit keyboard, and a nice 14-inch FHD IPS display. You may have also noticed those large speaker grills, which allow the stereo sound to travel more freely. These are also powered by B&O, a renowned player in the audio industry.
The device can be had in multiple configurations, but we prefer the higher-end version with an AMD Ryzen 5, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.
4. HP Chromebook 14
Looking familiar? HP has brought a nearly identical high-end design to its Chromebook 14 line, and it comes at a steep discount. There are some sacrifices to make with such an affordable laptop, though. We like the 14at-na100 version because of its affordability and value, but it comes with lesser specs. These include an Intel Celeron processor, 4GB of RAM, and 32-64GB of storage. You can pay up for better specs, as well as a better screen, but at that point, you might as well jump to one of the higher-end HP Chromebooks.
5. HP Chromebook 11
If your budget is tight or you don’t need all the fanfare of the other laptops, the HP Chromebook 11-v010nr might be the best HP Chromebook to get. This computer is super small and portable, featuring an 11.6-inch display. Specs include an Intel Celeron processor, 4GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. Yes, it is basic, but it’s also the most affordable laptop on this list.
6. HP Chromebook X2
Lastly, HP has stepped into the detachable game with the Chromebook X2. This 11-inch tablet luckily comes with a keyboard and has optional 4G connectivity, so you can do anything you want anywhere. The Snapdragon 7c processor inside doesn’t give it much power on paper, but that’s not why you’re buying a Chromebook.
Instead, the X2 offers excellent battery life at up to 11 hours and a bright QHD display for a great media experience. Other specs include a 128GB SSD and 8GB of RAM for a great offline experience as well as online.
