We also have a list of the best dog games and animal games if you want to check that out as well.

The best dog apps for Android

11pets

Price: Free

11pets is a pet care app that helps manage your dog’s health. Some of the features include a built in schedule so you can keep track of things like vet visits, medication schedules, vaccinations, and other events. There are also places for you to enter stuff like your dog’s medical history such as temperature, weight, and other info. It also has some cute stuff like dedicated, individual pet galleries where you can save images of your pets. It’s one of the better dog apps. This is also for other pets as well.

Dog Breeds

Price: Free / $2.99

Dog Breeds is a simple reference guide style app. It has a metric ton of dog types so you can identify what kind of dog you have. It’s also fun just to roam around and check out all the various breeds for fun. The app supports offline use, a fairly decent search function, a note taking function, bookmarks, search history, and more. The app also updates whenever new dog breeds come out. Of course, something like Google Search works fine if you need to answer a quick question, but this one is definitely more for the hardcore dog aficionados out there.

FitBark

Price: Free / $9.95 per month / Varies

FitBark is a fitness tracker but for dogs. It also functions as a GPS tracker. It does require the FitBark GPS, FitBark 2, or FitBark Dog Activity Monitor to function properly. The app is free at least. In any case, you can keep track of your dog’s health, its walks, and its general movements. Thus, you can reliably tell when your dog is moving less. That can indicate a problem. Additionally, the trackers can track the frequency your dog itches in case it has a skin problem. There are a bunch of other things it can do. The trackers range from $69.95 for the basic health monitor to $99.95 plus the subscription for the fitness tracker.

Google Maps

Price: Free

Google Maps is one of the excellent dog apps. Most use it for restaurants, traffic updates, and other stuff. However, Maps is a great place to find dog parks, vets, dog-friendly hotels, walking spots, and more. In addition, it should have decent info on things like 24/7 pet hospitals and stuff like that for emergencies. Let’s face it, you probably already have Google Maps. Why not use it for your dog too?

Google Search

Price: Free

Google Search is good for a ton of things for dog owners. You can quickly find out fun facts about your dog’s breed, find nearby vets, or check out training tips if you have a hard time. However, the use case we like the most is the ability to quickly search for poisons and instruction on what to do if your dog ingests them. There used to be great apps for stuff like this, including APCC by the ASPCA, but most of those apps haven’t seen an update in half a decade or longer. Google Search is more modern and more reliable these days for such things.

Merck Vet Manual

Price: Free

Merck Vet Manual is a pretty decent app for any involved pet owners. It has thousands of topics written by over 400 vet experts. Additionally, the app has photos and videos of thousands of disorders and diseases so you can see what one may look like. This can be great for folks wondering if their dog needs a trip to the vet. Of course, we don’t recommend you use this for self-diagnostic purposes. If you think something is seriously wrong, see a vet immediately. Still, this is great reference material.

Pet First Aid

Price: Free

Dogs have a way of getting into some really not great situations. Dog apps like Pet First Aid can help. It has detailed instructions on how to give enough emergency care and first aid to your dog until you can make it to a vet. It also has guides on administering medication, preventative care tools, and you can even program your vet’s number into the app to call them quickly if the app isn’t working. Perhaps the best part is that there are quizzes about the content so you can make sure you learn it. It’s a free app and you should get it.

PetDesk

Price: Free

PetDesk is an informational app for pet owners. That includes dogs! It helps make appointments for vets to see your dog. Additionally, it keeps track of medications and it keeps track of communications with your vet. The app includes a network of vets, groomers, and even boarders. That way you can find a sitter when you go on vacation. It supports other animals as well as dogs. Many of the services included cost money, but the app is free to download and use. It’s one of the essential dog apps.

Rover

Price: Free / Varies

Rover - best pet apps for android

Rover is a dog sitting app. You can find all kinds of sitters here for both short and long term sits. It works great if you’re going to be gone for a day for a trip or a week for a vacation. You can check out all of the available people, talk to them, and discuss things like payment. The dog sitter can send images, messages, and other information to you while you’re not home. It’s the best service we could find that does this sort of things. You can also try Airbnb if you want to find a place that lets you bring dogs with you. However, if you have to leave the dog behind, Rover may be a good solution for you.

Tractive GPS Dog and Cat Finder

Price: Free app but you have to buy the hardware too

Joe Hindy / Android Authority

Tractive is actually a physical hardware product with an official app. The products clip to your dog’s (or cat’s) collar. The app then tracks the device and, hence, your pet. It’s not the only product like this on the market. However, this one seems to have positive app reviews and it’s fairly popular. Losing a pet is a devastating and stressful experience that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Hardware and software like this should make it easier to track down your pet if they escape the safe confines of the house or yard. The app is free, but the devices are a little pricey. That’s typically true of most pet GPS products, not just Tractive.
