With characters such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man gracing their covers, Archie Comics have managed to gain a strong following over the past 70 years.

Now it’s possible for American fans to read their favourite Archie Comics stories as over 500 issues of the series are now available to read on Google Play.

To celebrate the launch, the series will be available to U.S Android users for just $0.99 on any device that supports Google Play, including smartphones and tablets.

Some of the series most colourful characters, like Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, and Betty Cooper are represented in the available titles, which can be split into several collections such as Archie & Friends, Betty & Veronica and Cheryl Blossom.

Archie have long been in touch with their digital side, having already set several electronic firsts within the comic book world. This includes being the first publication to release digital and print versions of an issue at the same time.

Comics have found a growing presence in the digital world with the likes of Marvel and DC launching apps for keen fans to download issues and collections on their mobile devices.
