So far Google has been coy about telling us what the next version of Android will be called or even what version number it will pack, referring to it as simply Android L. Some have suggested that it could end up as Lollipop, others playfully say Google should go with Lemon Pie or perhaps even Lemon Meringue Pie. Interestingly enough, one reddit user noticed that a search through the official AOSP website turned up several references to LMP.
Now, as many point out on Reddit, this could simply refer to the developer preview and may just stand for “L Material Preview”. Either way, even if LMP is the internal codename, there’s no guarantees that they use these initials in the naming of the final build. After all, KitKat was internally known as KLP (Key Lime Pie) but ended up being branded after a candy bar.
Personally, I think that Lemon Meringue Pie is too much off a mouth full, but then again, so was Ice Cream Sandwich. So here’s the question of the day: what do you think is the most likely name for Android L? What would you name it, if you had the power to make that decision?
