When Google announced that Android N would officially be known as Android Nougat, we were all wondering what version number Nougat would get. Would it be Android 6.1? 7.0? We finally have the answer.

In its new statue unveiling video, Google has confirmed that Android Nougat is, in fact, Android 7.0.

Now, the fact that the new version of Android is getting a bump up to 7.0 shouldn’t really come as a surprise. Google told us a while ago that we could expect a big release every year. They didn’t specify whether or not that meant a full digit jump every year, but it looks like that’s what we’re getting.

Check out the video of the statue unveiling, then let us know what you think about the naming scheme. Is there a name you would have preferred to see Android 7.0 receive? I know Nutella was a favorite for a lot of users. Either way, an operating system version by any other name would still taste as sweet, so it matters less what we call 7.0 and more what cool features it will bring to the Android ecosystem.
