TL;DR
  • The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 have been unboxed on YouTube ahead of their August 11 launch.
  • The footage shows a pair of Olive Green Galaxy Buds 2 and confirms some key features.
  • It also shows the earbuds connected to a Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Galaxy Wearable app.

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event is just days away and ahead of the mega launch, we’re already seeing retail units of the Galaxy Buds 2 floating around all over the place. After live images of the true wireless earbuds popped up on Twitter yesterday, a YouTuber has published a full-fledged unboxing and first impressions video.

The footage contains a pair of Olive Green Galaxy Buds 2. Inside the box is a compact square charging case, the Buds 2, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, spare ear tips, and warranty documents.

The back of the box confirms features like Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) that the Buds 2 borrow from the Galaxy Buds Pro and Buds Live. The cover also mentions up to 20 hours of battery life, which rumors suggest is expandable to 29 hours with ANC switched off.

The charging case is white on the outside, but the inside is painted green, just like the buds. This is also supposed to be the same color scheme for all other Galaxy Buds 2 colorways. There’s a USB-C port at the back of the case and the video notes that it also supports wireless charging.

You don't need to pull out the Galaxy Buds 2 from their case to switch on pairing mode.

The buds themselves look tiny and should have a good ear grip. They immediately pair with the YouTuber’s Galaxy S21 Ultra when placed next to the phone. You’ll get to see the battery percentage of both the case and the earbuds on your phone as soon as the buds are detected.

The video also shows that you don’t need to pull out the Galaxy Buds 2 from their case to switch on pairing mode. You can just long-press both the buds together as they rest in the case to turn it on. Once pairing is successful, the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone will download 10MB worth of new software so that you can start customizing your listening preferences through the app. The settings available are typical of what we’ve seen with previously Galaxy Buds.

The host also briefly discusses the sound and fit quality of the Buds 2. His initial impressions are that they sound good and recreate bass very well. He also notes that they feel lighter and better fitting than his Jabra Elite 85T ANC buds.
