HTC Desire Android 2.1

Getting right down to it, Android news blog ‘Android and Me’ believes that all current devices running Android of any version flavor will be capable of receiving an upgrade to the latest version, one way or another. Here is a direct quote from the ‘Android and Me’ website which broke the news recently;

After talking with several inside sources familiar with the matter, I would like to report that every Android phone currently released in the United States will be receiving an upgrade to Android 2.1.

Unfortunately, the early adopters may suffer from a few issues. Some Android based devices will be able to upgrade to the latest firmware version of Android, but may still lack some of its features, such as live wallpapers. Furthermore, some devices will be able to get this update over the air while other devices will only be able to get this update via a hard-wire connection to their PC. Further still, older devices such as the G1 may require a complete system whipe in order for them to bulk-up to Android 2.1 Alas, this news is not as sweet as it first sounds.

Updates are scheduled to be complete by the end of Q2 this year. The first devices to receive the update will be the original G1 and also the MyTouch 3G.
