How to add a GIF to Google Slides

Google Slides allows you to put together slideshow presentations for any occasion. If you want to make a point or demonstrate something, then you may want to add images. Google Slides supports many different image file types, including GIFs. Let’s go over how to add a GIF to Google Slides.

To insert a GIF on Google Slides, copy its URL in a browser. When you go back to Google Slides, click Insert Image By URL. Paste the URL of your GIF in the empty field, then click Insert to add it to your presentation. Alternatively, you can upload it from Google Drive or directly from your computer.

How to insert a GIF from the web

This first method requires you to first have a URL address for the GIF you wish to insert. If you simply right-click the GIF image on Google, copy it, and then paste it into Google Slides, all you will see is a still image of the GIF.

Go to Google and find your desired GIF. Right-click it and, from the subsequent dropdown menu, click Copy image address.

Head back to Google Drive and open your Google Slides presentation. Click Insert, then hover your cursor over Image. From the extended menu, click By URL.

Paste the copied URL in the Paste URL of image… field.

Once you’ve pasted the URL, a preview will automatically appear where the URL field was. Click INSERT.

When it appears on your slide, you can click and drag the GIF into place as you wish.

How to add a GIF from your computer

Another way to add a GIF to your slide is to simply upload it directly to the presentation from your computer. GIFs are accepted in their native image file type, so this is a very easy process.

Open your Google Slides presentation and click the Insert tab in the toolbar at the top. Hover your cursor over Image, then, from the extended menu, click Upload from computer.

Locate the GIF on your computer, then select it. On most desktop PCs, File Explorer will open and you will need to double-click the file to add it to your slide.

How to add a GIF from Google Drive

In order to use this method, you must have already uploaded your desired GIF to Google Drive. If you’ve done this, you can add it directly from there to your slide.

From your Google Slides presentation, click Insert and hover your cursor over Image. From the extended menu, click Drive.

A sidebar will open on the right-hand side. Select your desired GIF, then click INSERT at the bottom.
