Let’s face it, when it comes to the mobile world, ARM is king. Sure, other competing standards exist, but none come close to ARM. Despite that, Intel seems quite dedicated to ensuring that x86 processors stay relevant in an increasingly mobile-oriented world.

While there hasn’t been tons of Intel-powered Android devices yet, a Russian carrier, Megafon, has recently announced it was introducing its own Intel-based device. Today ZTE also joins in with its own Intel-based smartphone, the ZTE Grand X IN.

The new smartphone will launch in Europe in September, though no mention is made of a U.S. market launch at this time. What is expected with the Atom Medfield smartphone from ZTE?

Here’s a run-down of the specs:

  • Intel Atom Z2460
  • HSPA+ up to 21Mbps
  • Android ICS
  • RAM: 1GB, Storage: 16GB
  • 1650 mAh battery
  • 8MP AF/Flash back camera, 0.3MP front camera
  • GPS, Wifi, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 2.1 + A2DP
  • 127 x 65 x 9.9mm chassis, 140.8g weight (with battery)

Not too horribly bad specs, though many consumers might find the Atom processor a bit of a turn-off. While x86 processors tend to be faster than ARM, they are also not as good with battery life and even heating issues – although Intel has made major strides in those areas in recent years.

Would you consider an Android device powered by Intel, or will you stick with a major ARM-based device instead?
